IEEE ICDM 2026 will take place on November 12–15, 2026, at Wanda Vista Shenyang, China. The OWAD workshop, devoted to open-world anomaly detection in dynamic and evolving environments, will be held during the conference.
Our paper “The Blind Spot Paradox: When Adaptive Classifiers Defeat Drift Detectors”, by Raphaël Minato, Fabrice Popineau, Arpad Rimmel and Bich-Liên Doan, has been accepted at OWAD. It shows how an adaptive classifier can recover its accuracy so quickly after a distribution shift that drift detectors monitoring its errors miss the change. The study analyses this conflict between model adaptation and drift monitoring, using an Adaptive Random Forest, synthetic data streams and tabular benchmarks.
